SÜLEYMAN NAZİF EFENDİ'S ASH'AR AND MÜNŞEAT
by Dr. İdris ARAZ
Classical Turkish literature not only effectively constituted the main body of our literature for a long period of 600 years, but also continued to exist, even if its former prevalence diminished with the emergence of new literary movements after the 19th century. Even today, many poets write poetry with this approach. To facilitate the understanding of Classical Turkish literature by new generations, it is crucial to transcribe literary works written in Arabic script from the Ottoman period and to transmit our centuries-old cultural heritage to the present day. In this context, esteemed researchers have transcribed numerous works and made them available to our people. We are also transcribing the only known work of Süleyman Nazif Efendi from the 19th-century Classical Turkish literature period, Eş'âr ve Münşeât, and presenting it to researchers and interested parties.
