The biosphere, the natural habitat of living things, encompasses a range from the depths of the oceans (approximately 10,000 meters) to the troposphere (approximately 10,000 meters) of the atmosphere. Since the dawn of time, humanity has sought ways to survive in conditions that are not typical for life within the biosphere, its natural habitat. This search has sometimes been driven by curiosity, sometimes by a specific purpose. Thanks to this search, humans have found ways to survive in lifeless environments like space and have even been able to see the deepest reaches of the oceans with their own eyes. Developments show that humankind's activities and pursuits related to adapting to different living environments are ongoing and will continue to do so for as long as they exist.
