RECONSTRUCTION OF A NEIGHBORHOOD: URBAN TRANSFORMATION THROUGH THE PERSPECTIVE OF LOCAL PEOPLE
by Eren Özben SARIKAYA Prof. Dr. Sevgi ÖZTÜRK
The dynamic nature of urban life, evolving needs, and the transformation requirements of the physical environment have brought urban transformation practices to the forefront, a key intervention tool in urban planning. These practices are often limited to steps aimed at improving the physical structure; however, the need to consider the social fabric, cultural values, and individual life experiences is increasingly felt. This study focuses on the perceptions, experiences, and expectations of local residents regarding urban transformation projects at the neighborhood level in Kastamonu province. In this context, the importance of urban transformation practices is emphasized not only on the impact they have on the built environment but also on individuals' social relationships, sense of belonging, and quality of daily life. A key outcome of the study reveals that transformation projects should not only involve physical renewal but also encompass holistic approaches that strengthen social ties and address societal needs.
